Biography
Percussive, originally set up for fun in December 2001, made its debut during the final number of the Flemish programme “Man bijt hond”, that gave up-and-coming talent the opportunity to perform on television. The first number, a percussion version of “Tequila”, scored immediate success, since the viewers massively voted to see the group perform again. Soon after, the occasional band took part in another programme on the Flemish youth television Ketnet.
The name of the band was released in the press. After a few early performances, Percussive recorded its first demo CD “Children of the New Generation” in December 2002.
Since 2003, Percussive has been endorsed by Adams Music Centre and Roland, adding aural and visual value to its unique concept. In the summer, Percussive went on tour in Flanders in collaboration with Radio Donna and Benji Fun. During these shows the foursome was lifted in the air up to 50 meters while playing the drums. This spectacular act became known as ‘Air Percussive’. In the winter of 2003 and 2004, Percussive toured in the Nightlife Circuit together with the French brand “Ricard”, visiting the largest Belgian clubs and discos, including Metropolis, La Mezzanine, Havana and Carré.
In 2004, Percussive created its new programme “Rhythm! Brains?”, which was presented during 36 concerts at theatres, youth centres, festivals and other events. The show got a lot of attention from the press, television and radio. In the summer, Percussive toured again with Radio Donna.
Since 2005, Percussive has been collaborating with ITB Entertainment Group for its Dutch bookings. In this year, the band worked on its new show “Rhythmix!”, ideal for youth clubs, festivals and acts. The show opened in the cultural centre “De Werft” in Geel. The first performances were sold out immediately.
Since 2006, Percussive has cooperated with All Set?! for the Belgian bookings. In collaboration with Fanta Light, Percussive toured the big Belgian and Luxemburg carnival cities with the “Fanta stick Tour”. During the summer, the band also promoted Coca Cola in the recreation parks Bellewaerde Park and Center Parks. Percussive continued its show “Rhythmix!”in 2006 and 2007.
In 2007, the Air Percussive act was complemented with acrobats from the Dutch group “Corpus”, opening the cup final Genk-Anderlecht in February. The foursome also participated in a TV show, “Supertalent in Flanders” (based on 'America's got talent'), and even got to the finals. During the summer, Percussive toured in France, Swiss and Italy together with “La Groupe Percussions de Tournai”. The band also appeared on numerous other television shows on Eén, Jim TV and TMF, and promoted the clothing business “Springfield”.
The number of performances in 2008 was rather limited, because the band focused on the new show of the coming year. Jef participated in a television game. Bram, developing a freelance career, did no longer see a future in the band. Percussive therefore decided to continue as a threesome in their brand new creation “Sjow!”, a rhythmical theatre show with lots of new material opening in 2009. Percussive worked on it throughout the year.
